A healthy orchid that keeps growing leaves but won't flower is almost always missing one specific cue. Here are the usual culprits and the fixes.
Not enough light
Insufficient light is the number one reason orchids don't bloom. Move the plant to brighter, indirect light — leaves should be a mid grass-green, not dark green. Most orchids need noticeably more light to flower than simply to survive.
No day–night temperature drop
Many orchids, Phalaenopsis especially, are triggered into spike by a 4–6°C difference between day and night for a few weeks. A cooler spot at night, or a mild seasonal change, sets flowering off.
Too much nitrogen
A high-nitrogen feed grows leaves at the expense of flowers. Switch to a balanced or bloom-booster orchid fertiliser applied 'weakly, weekly' as the growth matures.
No winter rest
Some orchids, such as many Dendrobiums, need a cooler, drier rest in winter to flower. Reduce watering and give them a cool spell to prompt the next round of spikes.
Patience after repotting
A recently repotted or newly acclimatised orchid often spends a season settling in before it blooms again. Keep conditions steady and it will return to flower.
